DERBY RETURN NOT CERTAIN FOR MENGI

Manchester United defender TedenMengi impressed Derby County manager Wayne Rooney while he was at the club for a short-term loan spell earlier this year. The young centre back joined the Rams on loan in the winter transfer window thanks in part to the influence of Wayne Rooney and he didn’t disappoint with his assured displays for the English Championship outfit.

Wayne Rooney wants Mengi back at Derby County in time for the new season but that could be difficult according to the publication from the Manchester Evening News (MEN). It was reported that the England u-19 international could be integrated into the first team at Manchester United this summer.

Mengi is highly rated at Manchester United and it looks like his long-term future is at the club having signed a new contract in March.

He played nine times for Derby County while he was on loan at the club until a hamstring injury curtailed his progress. The young defender is back at the Theatre of Dreams and a decision on his immediate future is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Mengi is almost certain to train with the first team this summer and also feature in friendly games ahead of the new season though a Premier League loan has been mooted if he can’t make the squad for the new season. His potential inclusion in the Manchester United squad for next season is dependent on the signings made in defence.

Wayne Rooney hinted about another loan deal for Mengi when he told reporters about the hamstring injury that ended his season last month. According to him, Derby County officials would be in contact with the player and his parent club over the possibility of him returning to play for the Rams.
