ROONEY: BETTER THAN EVER

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said that it would be even more satisfying if they beat Manchester City to the Premier league title this season. United and Manchester city are the two teams fighting for the title this season, which is a break from the usual fight between Manchester United and Chelsea. Hence, Rooney reckons that it would be even more special if United managed to surpass archrivals City in the race for the title. Manchester United and Manchester city are both out of the other cup competitions this season, thus meaning that one of the teams could go trophyless at the end of the season.

Rooney said in a recent interview that the 6-1 drubbing Manchester City inflicted upon United at Old Trafford has dented the pride of the club, and the only way to regain it will be to win the title ahead of City. United have the opportunity to win the record 20th Premier league title, while it will be the first major title for Manchester City since the late 1960s. Manchester United recently climbed above City after their arch rivals held the top spot since November. United have a three-point advantage over City at the top of the table.

“We have stuck in there and kept going, kept working and we’ve gone above them. If we can win this league it will be very satisfying for all the players. There was one stage [when] we weren’t expected to win the league, which is mad when you are talking about Man United. It is great we are back on top and the aim is to stay there,” he said in a recent interview given to the BBC. Rooney scored the winner against Fulham on Monday night to give United the three-point advantage at the top of the table.
