MY BEST THIS SEASON

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said that the headed goal he scored against Manchester City in the FA Cup was the best goal he has scored this season. Manchester United were facing the table leaders Manchester City in the FA Cup match after suffering a 6-1 drubbing in the Premier league fixture at Old Trafford. This made the FA Cup match at Eastlands even more important for Manchester United, as it was a matter of pride more than anything else. Manchester United took the match extremely seriously and were rewarded with a 3-2 victory over Manchester City.

The score line was extremely convincing at one stage, as Manchester United were leading the match 3-0 going into the break. However, Roberto Mancini made some changes to the starting line-up, which produced the necessary effect. Manchester City clawed back two goals in the second half, but could not complete the comeback. Wayne Rooney was one of the scorers in the match. When asked about the best goal he has scored so far this season, Wayne Rooney said that it was undoubtedly the header against Manchester City, which ultimately helped them win the match.

“I’d probably say my header against City in the Cup. It was a great cross from Antonio [Valencia] and, although I could see Nani coming towards the ball at the same time, my sole focus was on winning the header – and thankfully it went in,” striker Wayne Rooney said regarding the best goal he has scored this season. Rooney also said that winning the Premier league title for the first time in the 2006-07 season was one of his best moments in the career till date. Even though Wayne Rooney has gone on to win many more trophies including the Champions League, this Premier league title remains special to him.
